MacGillycuddy Reeks Mountain Access Project

The MacGillycuddy Reeks Mountain Access Forum supported by South Kerry Development Partnership and funded by the Rural Development (LEADER) Programme 2014-2020 commissioned an Economic Impact Assessment report of the MacGillycuddy Reeks area. It will explore the economic value of recreational and related activities in the MacGillycuddy Reeks Mountains. The assessment will be carried out over the course of 2022 by Mark O’Connell and his team at Repucon Consulting.

This report when completed will give the MacGillycuddy Reeks Forum a comprehensive overview of the economic value of the MacGillycuddy Reeks mountains and will allow us to better understand what is needed with regard to future investment for the protection and development of these mountains.

Stewart Stephens – Chair of the MacGillycuddy Reeks Forum has said;

The MacGillycuddy Reeks Mountains are intrinsically linked with the outstanding beauty of the Kerry experience and success of the Kerry tourism industry. This report will highlight how important these mountains are to everyone in this area from hoteliers and coffee shops to hikers and  much more beyond that. To know the value this incredible mountain range has will demonstrate the importance of future investment in the protection and development of the MacGillycuddy Reeks

Repucon Consulting will be working throughout 2022 surveying business providers and recreational users throughout the Killarney, Glencar, Beaufort, Black Valley and Gap of Dunloe areas. The MacGillycuddy Reeks Forum would like to ask that any businesses and recreational users in these areas support us in carrying out this important work. The MacGillycuddy reeks Mountain Access Forum has been working diligently since 2014 to protect manage and sustainably develop the MacGillycuddy Reeks Mountains.
